Emergency medical Responder/Emergency care attendant

Program Overview

Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy's online EMR program will give you the resources needed to obtain your Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)/Emergency Care Attendant (ECA) certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). 

This program has been approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and meets the requirements for licensure in Texas.

Wilson County ESD #3's Training Academy EMR/ECA program consists of two components – online coursework, and an ambulance field experience date. The ambulance field experience helps the student to connect what they have learned with real world experience. Once a student has completed the course requirements (the online coursework and ambulance field experience shift) the student is eligible to received their course completion. With the course completion, the student will be able to register for the NREMT Cognitive Exam. 


Field Experience

EMR/ECA students will participate in a field experiences ambulance ride along at WCESD #3. During this experience,  you will gain hands on knowledge and practice skills with an ambulance crew while on 911 and interfacility transfer calls. 

 

What Can I Do as an EMR/ECA?

Emergency Medical Responders/Emergency Care Attendants provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. EMRs have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. 


Who Is Eligible for EMR Training in Texas?

Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy offers our EMR/ECA program to Texas residents 17 years or older. We require everyone enrolling in the course to have a high school diploma or equivalent level of education. Immunization records and  valid ID are required to enroll also. Prepare for a full-time career as an EMR. Whatever your goals may be, we want to help you achieve them!
