Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy's in-person EMT program will prepare you for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT exam and an exciting career as an EMT.

This program has been approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and meets the requirements for licensure in Texas.

Wilson County ESD #3's Training Academy program consists of three components – in-person coursework, a hands-on Skills Lab, and clinical/field experiences. Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy has several instructors that rotate teaching, so that our students get the most our entire staff has to offer.

During the hands-on Skills Labs, you’ll have an opportunity to practice, receive feedback on, and demonstrate your EMT psychomotor skills. You’ll also have access to our library, online resources, and our experienced EMT instructors to help you feel confident in your EMT skills. 

You’ll participate in Clinical Experiences and Field Experiences at first-responder organizations and hospitals in the local Wilson County, Texas area. During this phase of the program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and have an opportunity to put your skills into practice through real patient contact, while guided by experienced EMS and medical personnel. 

You’ll learn essential EMT knowledge that will prepare you to succeed at passing the NREMT cognitive examination. Our course covers all of the essential topic areas needed to prepare for the NREMT exam. These include airway; respiration & ventilation; cardiology & resuscitation; trauma; medical; obstetrics/gynecology; EMS operations; and patient care for adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients.

This course covers the proper order, procedure, and practice required to master skills from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians’ psychomotor competency requirements.

You’ll learn how to perform the following EMT psychomotor skills with confidence:

• Patient Assessment/Management – Medical
• Patient Assessment/Management – Trauma
• Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) Ventilation of an Apneic Patient
• Oxygen Administration by Non-Rebreather Mask
• Spinal Immobilization – Seated Patient
• Spinal Immobilization – Supine Patient
• Bleeding Control / Shock Management
• Cardiac Arrest Management – AED
• Joint Immobilization
• Long Bone Immobilization

A practicing EMT will respond to life and death situations. These professionals often ride in ambulances provide patients with an immediate level of care. If a patient is experiencing trauma, an EMT will assess their condition, provide immediate care, stabilize the patient, and transport them to a healthcare facility.

No two days are ever the same when working as an EMT. Licensed EMTs work to make sure that a patient remains stable during transport until they receive further attention from a doctor, surgeon, or specialist. EMTs are typically some of the first healthcare workers to arrive on the scene after a 911 call comes in. Enrolling in the EMT Basic training program through Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy is a great first step in earning the credentials you require for a full-time career.

Wilson County ESD #3 Training Academy offers our in-person program to Texas residents 17 years or older. We require everyone enrolling in the course to have a high school diploma or equivalent level of education.
